Cape.Com Brings Wireless Internet Access to Mashpee Commons

(Mashpee, MA) Cape.Com is kicking off the summer by bringing the largest, outdoor Wireless Internet Hotspot on Cape Cod to the upscale Mashpee Commons Marketplace just in time for Memorial Day weekend. High-speed wireless access will be available free of charge on an on-going basis in outdoor, public areas of Mashpee Commons to anyone with a wireless device such as a laptop or PDA that is equipped with the appropriate wireless card.

Mashpee Commons was selected as the first Cape.Com Wireless Hotspot to go live because of their desirable location and steady stream of people year-round, both residents and visitors alike. The Mashpee Commons, L.P. was eager to assist as this technology only further enhances their unique offering in the retail sector. Plus, Mashpee is the home of both of Cape.Com's offices, one in a second floor suite of Mashpee Commons, the other across the rotary at the Prime Center.

Cape.Com has wired the entire section of Mashpee Commons located between Route 28 and Route 151 using high-speed DSL as its backbone. This convenient Hotspot will afford locals and visitors alike fast, easy and "plug-free" access to the internet at no cost. It's as simple as sitting on a bench and firing up your browser! Other wireless providers charge substantial hourly, monthly and per connect fees for similar wireless access.

Cape.Com customers will have free, unlimited access to Cape.Com's wireless network, while guest users will be entitled to a free 1-hour trial per login. An 802.11b compliant wireless card is required, and can be purchased at most local technology dealers. While wireless access is initially available to patrons in outdoor, public locations of Mashpee Commons, local merchants can also have their indoor space equipped with wireless access, for the benefit of their customers and their own business use. In addition to Mashpee Commons, Cape.Com hopes to have a Hotspot located in the busy Main Street district of Hyannis operational by the end of summer 2004. This Hotspot will be sponsored by the Hyannis Main Street Business Improvement District (BID). Other outdoor, public Hotspots will be wired as such areas are deemed appropriate and feasible.
