Cape.Com Wins Business of the Year Award
October 2003 The Board of Directors of the Hyannis Chamber of Commerce has announced that Cape.Com, Inc. has been chosen the 2003 recipient of the Chamber's Business of the Year Award.
Cape.Com was established in 1994 to originally serve the Internet needs of Cape Cod residents and businesses. In the past 10 years, Cape.Com has grown from just 2 to 20 employees, and expanded its market to include the southshore, northshore and metrowest Boston areas. Four years ago, Cape.Com was the first locally-owned and operated ISP to offer DSL, and now is the leading business class DSL provider in eastern Massachusetts. Cape.Com attributes its continued success to carefully planned growth, first-rate customer support, a brilliant staff and R&D within the open-source environment. "Our Linux roots allow us to provide service enhancements that other ISPs charge a premium for," said Vernon Grabel, President. He continued, "We listen to our customer's wants and needs, and provide them with service add-ons that are free or very low-cost." Examples of open-source enhancements include anti-virus filters, "SpamNabber" and "Jet", a new free web accelerator.
Cape.Com's web development group has gained notoriety as well. They have provided web solutions for well-known organizations the likes of AARP, Kaiser Permanente, Charles Schwab, Nike, TMP WorldWide (Monster.Com's parent company), and Cisco. They have also designed and programmed hundreds of small business websites, from e-brochures to e-commerce. "We don't chase rainbows," said Pat Murphy, Director of Sales. "We do our homework and assess the competition before pursuing any new venture. That's why Cape.Com is still around and going strong, while so many others have come and gone." The Business of the Year Award was presented to Cape.Com at the Hyannis Chamber Annual Dinner on October 1, 2003 at the Cape Codder Resort in Hyannis. |
