Cape.Com Installs DS3/T3 CircuitFebruary 5, 2003
Cape.Com has expanded its internal network and installed a very high speed DS3 circuit, similar to a T3, from its server headquarters, aka the "vault"* in Mashpee to its system hub in Quincy. This is the first such high-speed DS3 line installed by Verizon on Cape Cod. A DS3 is a dedicated, private line service designed for point-to-point communications. With its 45 megabit capacity, it is equal to the bandwidth/speed of approximately 28 T1 lines. This high capacity digital service transmits data over fiber optic cable. What will this DS3 do for Cape.Com and its customers? This new high-speed connection will afford 10-fold expansion for Cape.Com's network. The network is currently 4 times faster with this DS3 in place, and it can expand to as much as 10 times faster if traffic nears the 45 megabit capacity. Businesses with their websites hosted on Cape.Com servers will see their pages now load even faster, and email delivery and all communication "packets" between Cape.Com systems and the Internet are now lightning fast. "We wanted to have the best pipe to the Internet available and in place to accomodate the needs of our growing business customer base," said Will Rapp, VP of Operations. Cape.Com is the leading locally-owned ISP in eastern MA, specializing in high-speed DSL, T1, 56K Dial-Up, ISDN, and Frame-Relay Internet access. Additional services include web & email hosting along with professional website development, e-commerce and e-business. Locally-owned and operated since 1994, Cape.Com has offices in Mashpee at the Prime Center and Mashpee Commons, and serves business and residential customers throughout Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Cape Cod and the Islands. Telephone: 508-539-9500, email: hello@cape.com, web: www.cape.com. * Cape.Com main offices are located in a former bank building. |
