Cape.Com Lends Support to Cape Cod Marathon

Cape.Com has served as the official Virtual Host of the Cape Cod Marathon since 1997, and continues to offer gratis hosting, email and web development services to the popular race winding through scenic Falmouth in late October.

The Cape Cod Marathon is in its 25th year, hosted by the Falmouth Track Club. The 26-mile race will take place Sunday, October 27th, at 8 AM starting at the Village Green in Falmouth (don't forget daylight savings time!). Volunteers and spectators are welcome to assist and cheer the runners on!

This year's race has a full field of 1200 impressive runners from all over the Cape and New England, along with the many US states, Canada and other foreign countries. In addition, the Marathon will feature the Dunkin Donuts Relay Race, where up to 5 team members get a chance to run a leg. A total of 150 relay teams have been assembled from area businesses, clubs, charities, neighborhoods and long-term friendships.

A Prize Purse of at least $7,400 to individuals and $1,000 to USATF-NE teams competing in the championship will be distributed to the top marathon finishers, supplemented by trophies and merchandise prizes, in the following categories: Overall Winners, Open 14-39, Master 40-49, Senior 50-59, Veterans 60-69, and Grand Veterans 70 & over. Additionally merchandise prizes will be awarded randomly at the finish line to other finishers. The marathon will also award prizes in the Clydesdale (men - 190+) and Filly (Women - 140+) Divisions.

Cape.Com plans to award the Cape.Com Cup to the first place Relay team in the Men's, Women's and Mixed team divisions. Each winning relay team member will also receive a gift certificate to use towards Cape.Com service. All in all, Cape.Com is donating over $1,000 in prizes.

"We have always been pleased to offer our support to this exciting race. It's a great event for the whole community," said Suzanne Cosgrove, Director of Marketing for Cape.Com.

"Cape.Com's efforts on the Marathon's website really show when you look at how far-reaching the field has become, and how efficient it is to register runners on-line. 90% of our runners sign up via the website. We couldn't have grown this fast without them", said Courtney Bird, Race Director.

The CompassBank Cape Cod Marathon takes its participants on a twenty-six mile loop around the town, beginning in the historic Falmouth Village Green, past the picturesque Falmouth Inner Harbor, along the breathtaking Nantucket Sound vistas of Falmouth Heights and Menauhant, across Green Pond and through the rustic wooded areas of Davisville and past Falmouth's legendary Cranberry bogs in Hatchville. The race then turns west towards the Buzzards Bay villages of West Falmouth and Sippiwissett and south through the internationally famous scientific community of Woods Hole.

Winding through Woods Hole, the race then returns to the beaches of the Sound with a stunning turn around Nobska Point, past the lighthouse and along the beaches of Surf Drive and then finally back through the downtown streets of Falmouth to finish at the Village Green. The marathon's route gives participants a unique view of almost every section of Falmouth and its neighborhoods and people.
