Changing Your Local Access Number

Windows XP

  1. Click Start, Control Panel, Network Connections
  2. Double click on Cape.Com icon
  3. Change the Telephone Number to the Cape.Com local access number (see the Related Page below if you are not sure).
  4. Click OK.
  5. Login and test

Windows 95/98

  1. From the Desktop, double-click on My Computer, then double-click on Dial-Up Networking.
  2. Right-click the Cape.Com icon, then click Properties.
  3. Change the Telephone Number to the Cape.Com local access number (see the Related Page below if you are not sure).
  4. Make sure that "Use Area Code And Dialing Properties" or "Use Country Code And Area Code" is unchecked.
  5. IF call-waiting is on this line, add *70, in front of the ten-digit number to disable call-waiting ( e.g. *70,508-445-4200 )
  6. IF you must dial a number to get an outside line, add this number then a comma in front of the ten-digit number ( e.g. 9,508-445-4200 or *70,9,508-445-4200 )
  7. Click OK.
  8. Login and test

Mac

  • Using PPP or Remote Access

    1. One of the following should work, depending on your specific configuration:
      • Click the Apple in the upper left-hand corner of the screen, select Control Panel, then PPP (for older Macs) or Remote Access (for newer Macs).
      • Click the Apple in the upper left-hand corner of the screen, select System Preferences, Network, then PPP. (for newer Macs).
    2. Change the Number to the Cape.Com local access number (see the Related Page below if you are not sure).
    3. IF call-waiting is on this line, add *70, in front of the ten-digit number to disable call-waiting ( e.g. *70,508-445-4200 )
    4. IF you must dial a number to get an outside line, add this number then a comma in front of the ten-digit number ( e.g. 9,508-445-4200 or *70,9,508-445-4200 )
    5. Close PPP or Remote Access, and answer yes to the prompt to Save Changes to Current Configuration.
    6. Login and test.

  • Using FreePPP

    1. Open FreePPP Setup, click on Accounts, then highlight the Cape.Com account, and click Edit.
    2. Change the Number to the Cape.Com local access number (see the Related Page below if you are not sure).
    3. IF call-waiting is on this line, add *70, in front of the ten-digit number to disable call-waiting ( e.g. *70,508-445-4200 )
    4. IF you must dial a number to get an outside line, add this number then a comma in front of the ten-digit number ( e.g. 9,508-445-4200 or *70,9,508-445-4200 )
    5. Confirm that Directly is selected in the Connect field.
    6. Click OK, then restart your machine.
    7. Login and test.
