Connecting with National Dialup Numbers

Glossary Items:

CapeCom's National Dialup lines are available throughout the Continental US and a few Canadian cities, and can provide a local access number in almost every US Metro area. There are no toll charges or per minute charges associated with our National lines. The service is free of charge with our Pro Plan or $3/month with our Virtually Unlimited plan.

Here's how to connect with National Dialup:

  1. The National Dialup service must be added to your CapeCom account.

    • The service may be added by contacting CapeCom Technical Support at support@cape.com or 508-539-9500.

    • You can confirm that the service is added to your account from Online Accounting:
      • Click the "On-Line Accounting" link located under E-Tools.
      • Log in with your CapeCom username and password (if you are an associate user, log in with the account manager's username and password).
      • Click the "View Monthly Fixed Charges" link.
      • The "National Dialup" service should be present in the list if the service is added.

  2. Use CapeCom's Dial-up Number Finder to find the correct dial-up number.

  3. Set up a new connection for the National Dialup number.

For help with other Operating Systems, please contact CapeCom.

  4. If you are using a mail program other than WebMail, then in order to send outgoing messages, the "Outgoing Mail Server" must be set to "relay.cape.com" and it must be set to use authentication. When and if you switch back to your regular dialup number, you will not need to change this back.

    • In Microsoft Outlook 2003:
      • Click on the "Tools" menu and select "E-mail Accounts..."
      • Select "View or change existing email accounts..." and click "Next".
      • You will be presented with a listing of existing mail accounts. Select the one you would like to update and click "Change...".
      • Change the "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)" to "relay.cape.com".
      • Click the "More Settings" button.
      • Click the "Outgoing Server" tab, select "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication", select "Use same settings as my incoming mail server".
      • Click OK.

    • In Outlook Express:
      • Click "Tools", then "Accounts".
      • You will be presented with a listing of existing mail accounts. Select the one you would like to update and click "Properties".
      • Click the "Servers" tab, then change "Outgoing Mail (SMTP)" to "relay.cape.com" .
      • Click the "Settings" button, then click "Use same settings as my incoming mail server".
      • Click OK, then OK.

    • In Mac OSX Mail:
      • Click "Mail", then "Preferences".
      • Click the "Server Settings" button.
      • Change "Outgoing Mail Server" to "relay.cape.com" , then change "Authentication" to "Password" .
