AOL Customers
For AOL customers who wish to stay with AOL, but do not have a local access number to AOL in their area, it is possible to set up an account with Cape.Com, and use your Cape.Com connection to get to AOL. You will be charged the regular price for your Cape.Com account, and AOL charges approximately $15/month for their Bring Your Own Access plan.
Before starting the following instructions, you must sign up for an account with Cape.Com, and configure your computer to connect to Cape.Com. If you have any questions or problems with this, contact us through our web site or call us at 508-539-9500. Once you are able to connect to Cape.Com, the instructions below will help you configure your AOL program to use Cape.Com as your connection. These instructions are taken from AOL's web site; any questions or problems should be directed to AOL: - Open your AOL program and go to AOL Keyword BYOA (Bring Your Own Access)
- Call 1-800-555-1212 to get the local voice number for AOL in your area.
America Online's software allows you to connect to AOL using TCP/IP over the Internet from your Internet Service Provider. To connect to America Online using TCP/IP: - Connect to Cape.Com.
- Leave that software connected and launch America Online.
- On the Sign On screen, click Setup.
- On the AOL Setup screen, choose the Create a location for use with new access phone numbers or an ISP option and click Next.
- In the Add Location window, type a name for the location (for example, TCP/IP location).
- Click Add a custom connection (for example TCP/IP) and click Next.
- A TCP/IP location will be created automatically.
- Click Sign On and you will connect to America Online over the connection provided by your Internet Service Provider.
