Bounced Email Messages

Glossary Items:

If a message could not be delivered, it should "bounce" back to the sender. Read this "bounced" message carefully; it will explain the reason why it could not be delivered. If you are still unsure, forward this message to support@cape.com.

The most common reasons for mail not being sent properly is that:

  • the sender mistakenly misspelled the email address
  • or that the sendee no longer has that email address
  • or that the sender did not use the correct syntax for an email address
  • and sometimes, the user's mail server is temporarily out of service. It's highly uncommon for that to happen at Cape.Com, but not uncommon for many in-house company or institutional mail servers.

The correct syntax for an email address is the person's user name followed by the "at" sign (@) followed by a domain name. An email address should never have spaces in it.
