Spam Filter Control Panel Help
Be assured that Cape.Com has strict anti- spam and privacy policies, and will not sell, rent or give your email address to a third party. However, some spam will inevitably squeak through, and we give you the power to control it, free of charge. Your Spam Filter Control Panel can be accessed by logging into Cape.Com Webmail. By clicking on the Filters button at the top, you can activate, de-activate and manage your Spam Filter settings according to your needs. Here's how Cape.Com's powerful Spam Filter, SpamNabber, works. An incoming email is examined and either delivered to your main mail box or your junk mail box, based on the following: First, the FROM field of the email is examined. If it contains an entry in the 'Accept if FROM is' list, it is delivered to your main mailbox and all other filtering rules are bypassed. Next, the TO field is examined. If it does NOT match with an entry in the 'Accept if TO is' list, the mail will be delivered to your junk mailbox. The next step is to, again, examine the FROM field. If a match is found in the 'Reject if FROM is' list, the mail will go to your junk box. And finally, the entire mail header and body are examined for patterns that are characteristic of SPAM. If SpamNabber determines that this mail is Spam, the mail is delivered straight to your junk box. Your junkbox can be viewed using Cape.Com's Webmail system. See related link below. Each of these four steps is optional; you may choose, for instance, to simply enable SpamNabber without any field restrictions. If you find that you're on a mailing list that SpamNabber tags as Spam, and you want this email delivered to your main Inbox, put the email address of the source of the email in the 'include' list. If you're constantly getting mail from a specific source, you don't want the mail, and the sender just refuses to stop sending it, add the sender to the 'exclude' list. Please note: The include and exclude lists are limited to 200 rules. You will be notified when you exceed the 200 limit. To delete a specific rule, click Delete at the far right. To disable your filtering completely, simply delete all of the rules, and select the 'disable SpamNabber' option in the drop-down box. Mail deemed to be spam is housed in your JUNK mailbox for 20 days or when 200 messages have accumulated, whichever comes first, and is then automatically deleted. SpamNabber is very powerful, so remember to check your junk box on occasion to verify that mail isn't being inadvertently filtered. The easiest way to do this is with WebMail. Login to WebMail with your username and password. Choose your junkbox, and click the subject header link to view an email. If an email is junked but you feel it shouldn't have been, you may transfer the entire email back to your main Inbox while using WebMail. See instructions on using Webmail 3 in the related link below. For your convenience, SpamNabber will produce a Spam Report at the top of each email that it sends to your junk box, outlining what components of the email caused it to be classified as junk.
